Magnolia Moment
18" x 36" Oil on Canvas
Available: $2100
This is one from my Hilton Head trip. My friend and I were taking a walk and she pointing our how much she loves magnolias. I was fascinated by these large flowers on trees and snapped several shots. The part that got me wasn't the blooms so much but the intense green, golds, and reds in the leaves. I haven't spent much time painting flowers but something drew me back to the smells and sounds of Hilton Head. I wanted to explore a loose feel and experiment with a rougher texture. This painting is done directly on the rough side of a masonite board that I gessoed with several coats. This prevented my habit of getting too detailed. Different for me but I enjoyed the process. May have to do some more of these relaxed botanicals.
